Life on the farm after you log off
A workation here is not only about the desk. When the laptop closes, the spice garden, the village paths and the Kallar river are right outside the door.
Four ways to spend your time off
All of them start at the front door. No transport, no tickets, no planning beyond a message to us.
-
Farm walks
Walk the 1.5-acre spice garden with the family who tends it. See pepper vines on their support trees, cardamom growing in the shade, clove and cinnamon trees, cocoa pods on the trunk and coffee shrubs, and hear how each one is grown and dried.
-
Spice harvesting
Help pick pepper or cardamom when it is in season, then see how the spices are dried and sorted. Harvest timing moves with the weather each year, so ask us what is being picked during your dates.
-
Village trekking
Hill paths and viewpoints around Pachady that most visitors to Idukki never find. Walk past homes and small plantations at your own pace, with long views over the Western Ghats.
-
Kallar river trails
The Kallar river runs through the valley one to three kilometres from the village, depending on the path you take. Follow the trails on foot for an easy outing after a long day of calls.
Guided treks and village visits are arranged with the host when the schedule allows, for an additional fee.
What's happening, month by month
Approximate, because the weather decides. Message us and we'll tell you what is being picked and what the weather is doing during your dates.
Cardamom harvest August to February
Black pepper harvest December to March
Coffee harvest December to February
Monsoon June to September
Cool and clear October to February
Warmer and drier March to May
Kerala food from the farm kitchen
Meals at Work From Village are home-cooked Kerala food, seasoned with spices from the garden you are staying in. After a farm walk, you will know where the pepper in your curry came from.
Tell us about any dietary needs when you message us, and we will plan around them.
Want to go further?
Waterfalls, windy hilltops, the Idukki reservoir and day trips to Munnar and Thekkady are all within reach for a weekend.
